Dear Supervisors,

As a San Franciscan, I urge you to include Sunday Streets’ requested funding in San Francisco’s 2015-17 budgets. Sunday Streets is important to me, my family, and my community. It provides a safe space and fun atmosphere to be healthy and interact with the City I love.

Sunday Streets is more than just an enjoyable event. It is an investment in improving San Franciscans’ health, building community, and fostering economic vitality in neighborhoods that need it. These “open streets” provide all San Franciscans the opportunity to safely learn to ride a bike, promote walking, biking, and transit as primary commuting alternatives, and transform our streets into a healthy, safe place to exercise and engage with the community.

Sunday Streets is part of a broader movement. It helps realize:

* Vision Zero, the City’s goal to end all traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2024, by making our streets safer for all users.

* The Mayor’s Pedestrian Strategy, which highlights Sunday Streets as a core strategy for improving walking and walkability.

* DPH and the Shape Up Coalition’s neighborhoods and health care goals to provide all neighborhoods with increased opportunities for physical activity.

* San Francisco and MTA’s transit-first and social equity and access policies.

* The SFMTA Bicycle Strategy to make bicycling a part of everyday life.

* Recreation and Park’s strategic plan to expand and promote youth programs emphasizing movement and wellness, and senior programs emphasizing activity and community.

Throughout the year, Sunday Streets serves more than 200,000 people, providing safe open space for them to get out, engage in healthy activities, and explore San Francisco’s unique neighborhoods. Show that you support Sunday Streets by approving Sunday Streets’ requested funding in the 2015-17 budgets.

Sincerely,
