A Message from our Executive Director – August 11

Thank you for your support of Phoenix Day neighborhood block parties in the past five years. This program grew from the need for connection during the COVID-19 pandemic and we have appreciated your enthusiasm, patience, and follow up throughout this difficult year.

We are sad to report that delayed and canceled funding at both the local and federal level have curtailed Livable City’s capacity to sustain Phoenix Day, and so with great regret we are cancelling the program for 2025.  While we were able to assist residents with block party permits and street closure equipment in the past, in reality we have been stretched thin starting up the program this year in the expectation that promised funding would allow us to dedicate new staff to Phoenix Day.

We deeply appreciate those of you who have been loyal participants in the Phoenix Day program over the years, as well as those of you new to the program this year.  For 2025, we were hoping to expand Phoenix Day to equity neighborhoods and add a stronger disaster preparation aspect, but it looks like we will have to put those aspirations on hold until 2026 instead. Again, thank you for your interest, and I truly apologize for any negative impact this decision has on you and your neighbors.

If you are interested in advocating for the expansion of these types of programs, particularly in your district, we highly encourage you to reach out to your supervisor via email, phone, or in-person and underscore what Phoenix Day has meant to your community.

For questions or future opportunities, please reach out to us at phoenixday@livablecity.org.
