Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a typical volunteer shift?

Most volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours and take place during the week and weekends leading up to an event and during event-day. Group shifts are either 4 or 6 hours depending on event needs and group availability.

Are there age restrictions?

All ages are welcome, however some supervision requirements apply for minors.
All volunteers under 18 years old — must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver.
All volunteers under 16 years old — must be accompanied by an adult at no less than a 3 to 1 ratio of guardians to youth.

Is there parking available for volunteers?

There is limited parking available in San Francisco, and all volunteers are encouraged to take public transit to the event whenever possible. There will be absolutely no parking available on site within nor outside of the street closure footprint. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have accessibility needs and require special arrangements, please send an email to [email protected] as soon as possible so that we can try to accommodate your request.

Who is the on-site point person if I have an issue on event day?

If you have an issue on the day of the event, please call Reina Terry at 415-504-2901.

Are there any COVID-19 protocols I should follow?

We care deeply about the health and well-being of our volunteers. Volunteers are encouraged to exercise their best judgment and caution whilst volunteering with the Sunday Streets SF Production Team. Please wear a mask if you are most comfortable doing so but note that masks are not mandatory.

What should I wear?

All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, preferably ones that are non-skid and have some ankle support especially if your position is required to set up & breakdown equipment. Volunteers are encouraged to dress comfortably in breathable,  multi-layers of clothing in order to be able to adjust to the climate changes throughout the day.

What should I bring to the event?

Volunteers do not need to bring anything other than themselves, appropriate footwear and clothing, and a reusable water bottle to reduce waste. If you have safety gear such as work gloves, we strongly suggest you bring them for your personal use.

I am volunteering for 4 hours. Will I get a break?

Volunteers who have signed up for a shift that is four hours or longer will be invited to take a break as per labor laws in California. If your shift is less than 4 hours long, but you would like to take a brief break, please do so! All we ask is that you alert the team captain you are working with.

I was asked about my dietary restrictions/preferences. When will I be fed?

The majority of volunteers will be fed at the end of their shift. However, volunteers who are donating their time for the entire day (7+ hours) will be allocated time to have lunch during their shift.

Those who have expressed a dietary restriction/preference will be able to pick up a meal based on those preferences.

Is there somewhere secure where I can put my stuff on site?

Volunteers will be able to leave their stuff in a particular area but we cannot be responsible for items onsite. We suggest packing very light and keeping your personal valuables with you.

Where do I go when I arrive at the location on Sunday?

Please check in at the front gate or onsite staff at the check-in booth and notify them that you are a volunteer. You will be given instructions from that point as to where to go.
