About Sunday Streets in the Tenderloin

This densely populated neighborhood houses the highest number of families with children, has one of the highest rates of car-free households, and has the least amount of park space per capita in San Francisco. Few neighborhoods make a better case for transforming streets into recreational space for playing and building community.

The Tenderloin Sunday Streets route includes Fulton St between Hyde and Larkin, Larkin to Ellis St, Ellis to Jones St, Jones to Golden Gate Ave, and Golden Gate Ave to Larkin St.

Attend a Community Meeting

If you have ideas on what you would like to see at Sunday Streets, come to a community meeting. See the dates and RSVP here.

Activities and more

For just five hours, the streets of the Tenderloin will be filled with healthy activities, arts, music, and more. Boedekker Park will be open for Zumba lessons and picnicking, the Veteran’s Mural Project and  Umpqua Bank will host an interactive temporary painted intersection, and there will be super sized Jenga, Bean Bag Toss and street bowling by Central City SRO Collaborative. The Healthy Corner Store Coalition will be offering healthy eating demos and information, and there will be a slew of activities for kids of all ages!

Don’t miss the San Francisco Yellow Bike Project‘s Kid’s Bike Swap! Has your child outgrown their bike? Did something break and leave the bike inoperable? Come to SFYBP (530 Ellis St. Between Leavenworth and Hyde) during Sunday Streets with an old, ill-fitting or not working kids bike and swap it for something that fits your child and is working smoothly. They will also be offering free/donation-based repair services for kids bikes during the swap. So either way, bring the old bike down and see if the SFYBP can turn it into something functional for your little one! Click here for a full list of activities.

Getting there

The Tenderloin Sunday Streets is one of the most accessible events in the city. We strongly encourage biking, walking, or taking public transportation to get to Sunday Streets when possible.

MUNI:  For trip planning and other Muni-related info, go to www.sfmta.com. Visit sfmta.com/alerts the week before the event for updated information on any MUNI lines that will be rerouted during the event. Bikes are allowed on front racks of buses. The Tenderloin is well served by many downtown and crosstown MUNI routes, including the following:

  • Muni Metro to Civic Center (Lines J, K, L, M, N, T)

  • Golden Gate Transit

BART: Take BART to the Civic Center station. The Civic Center BART station is just a few short blocks from the south end of the Tenderloin Sunday Streets route. Use the Hyde or Larkin St exits and walk north 1 or 2 blocks to Fulton St. Bikes are allowed on BART trains at all times. For trip planning, go to www.bart.gov. For more information about bikes on BART, go to www.bart.gov/guide/bikes.

Bike: Get in the spirit for Sunday Streets by biking there! Go to:  www.sfbike.org to download a bike map to help find a flat, bike-friendly route from your area or the nearest transit stop to Sunday Streets. Got a long way to go? Shorten the trip by taking transit part of the way. Muni buses have bike racks for 2 bikes, BART and Caltrain both allow bikes on board.

By Car: Should you chose to drive, be aware that the Sunday Streets route is towed of all vehicles beginning at 8am (even if you’re just stopping for a moment for a cup of coffee).
